Guest Activities at a Destination Wedding

With destination weddings becoming more popular, you are going to want to plan additional activities for your guests to participate in while they are at your chosen location.

If you are planning a seaside wedding in an exotic location such as Jamaica, Caneel Bay or the Bahamas, There are several activities that can be planned around this theme. If it is a weekend event where guests will be around from more than just the wedding, plan a sailing excursion. Charter a boat for a day and bring your guests out on the water to relax, rejuvenate and perhaps enjoy a meal.

If you are in the Caribbean, how about a cooking demonstration? You can arrange for guests to enjoy a complimentary cooking demonstration put on by the hotel cook. They might even enjoy learning how to prepare it for home enjoyment.

Is Hawaii your destination? What about a luau? This could take the place of a more formal or conventional sit-down rehearsal dinner. Guests will also enjoy a hula lesson. Depending on the age of your guests, be sure there is enough time between the wedding and the lesson for rest.

Other pre-wedding activities can include guided tours, shopping excursions and wine tasting activities. No matter what activity you choose, keep in mind that the bride and groom are expected to pay for the bulk of them. Do not tell people that the activity will cost x amount of dollars. It will turn some people off and they will not want to participate.

Remember if you do have a destination wedding, many of your guests will choose to spend extra time at the destination, possibly for a extended vacation. With this in mind you may want to only schedule a few activities and give helpful suggestions for other activities and forms of entertainment as they might want to do things on their own.
