Whoooo among you knows about the owl craze? I see them everywhere. I have several tweens and teens in my life that adore owls so I decided to make a few broaches to give as Christmas gifts.

The felt owl was created by using felt scraps, fabric glue and a bit of embroidery thread. I then raided my stash of vintage fabrics and cut out various circles in 4 and 6 inch diameters.

I also had just a smidge of brown linen fabric left over from this project:

Now the very best felt and yo yo's in blogland come from the uber talented Heather Bailey.
Please click on this link for her wonderful tutorial on how to make a yo yo. I followed the instructions on how to make a yoyo with a wider center.

It is easy to layer the yo yo's. You can attach them together when sewing a pin onto the back of the broach. The pins can be purchased at any craft store.

I used a hot glue gun to add the owl and button embellishments.

I slipped the broaches and hair clips into sweet fabric bags that I will show in an upcoming tutorial.

If you don't fancy an an owl, you can cut out felt shapes that please you: Flowers, pine trees, stars....
Smaller hands might find a pin hard to put on, so I also created a few hairclips.
Each set was less than $2 to make.
