When I began planning my trip to New Orleans at the top of my “must see” list was perch. on Magazine Street. Joni said that I had to visit with the wonderfully effervescent Valorie Hart. Valorie works at this amazing store which I had already read about previously via Jaimee Rose, Velvet and Linen, Willow Decor and many others who have philosophically waxed of its wonders. Indeed the building that houses perch. had me at “Hello”.
Having begun a correspondence with Valorie I was so excited to meet her. She is a rare gem, a true Renaissance woman who is a master of her craft. I cannot wait until she reveals her paint formula for Vamp Greige. To get in on the secret you must visit her blog, Visual Vamp, and check out her kitchen makeover. She was joined by Jack Mayberry, a talented designer in his own right. Within 10 minutes of speaking with both of these individuals I wanted to ask for a job application just so I could hang out in this fabulous store with such a talented twosome.
If one had to pigeon hole the design style of perch. I imagine that it would best be labeled as eclectic. In in my opinion eclectic design is the hardest style to master as you need to incorporate modern, with a balance of contemporary, add a splash of vintage and a few bits of blissful antiques. The lighting collection, in the front hall, is proof that perch. offers something for everyone.
I spy with my little eye a few Louis XVI chairs, graceful glass cloches and a magnificent mirror.
As I gazed upon the table setting I had to feel the silver. It was weighty perfection that was cool to the touch. I adore the pattern on the glasses and the quaint size of the antique salt cellars.
This secretary made my heart pitter patter. So many wonderful things could be stored away in the cool French blue drawers.
I saw these old doors and imagined this conversation:“Yes, I know that the doors are too tall to be considered as a carry on, but just look at their loveliness~ I can’t let them out of my sight.”
The lamp and the buffet are perfection. But what really moved me was the painting. It is the work of Caroline S. Robert who is also the owner of Perch. I fell in love with this masterpiece instantly and still dream about it.
What a truly beautiful mirror. I also love the ikat pillow found on the top of the stack.
One would surely have a mid summer’s night dream while slumbering upon this beauty.
While I loved the lucite chiavari ballroom chair, my heart swooned when I saw the drapes. They were the creation of the brilliant Jack. Yes, Jack captured my heart in more ways than one.
