Penny Black dog with rose and NEW Nellie Snellen Doily Flower Multiframes

Hi and a HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all!  Did you make any New Year Resolutions?  I made one - and that is to "do the insides of my cards before I move onto the next card"!!  Are you like me, and once you do the front of the card, you leave the inside for "later on"?   And, then I often seem to smudge the inside sentiment because I am in such a hurry, or I stamp it upside down or crookedly!   UGGH!!   I hadn't done any of the insides of my Christmas cards last year so I had this last-minute rush to do them - but not this year - and so far, with the cards I have made (even though they are not Christmas cards), I have done the insides! Yay me!

Anyway, I am so happy that you stopped by, because I have some gorgeous new Nellie Snellen Flower Multiframe dies to show you.  You can find them HERE at Fat Cat's Card Corner.  Aren't they just so pretty?  Just like a lace doily.  There are 3 lacey dies and 3 matching plain circles in the set.  You use the same sandwich in your Cuttlebug as for Spellbinder Nestabilities, ie: A Plate, C Plate, Die face up, cardstock, B Plate. 

For my card, I decided to make a Circle Card using my Spellbinder Large Circle Nesties.  You simple fold a piece of cardstock in half, and line up the Circle Nestie just near the fold of the card - see this pic:

And run it through your Cuttlebug using the usual A, C and B plate combo for Spellbinder dies - and yes, it DOES cut through the 2 layers of cardstock - it's just regular cardstock - nothing special - but you should always check your own machine and NEVER EVER force a sandwich through if it feels very tight.  Here is an extra-close-up piccy:

Hey, I just realised the background looks like a swimming pool full of water!  But it's just my glass-topped table on our decking.  I had to take the photo there because it was over 40degC outside (about 104degF) with a blistering hot north wind, so I couldn't take my photos in my usual place because my Nestie/cardstock would have blown away!

You can diecut any shaped card with your Dies - and it's really nice to make something different other than a square or rectangle-shaped card.  Go on - have a play!!

This cute little dog is from a Penny Black Clear Set called "Critter Party" and was coloured with Derwent Coloursoft Pencils and OMS.   I chalked the blue sky background and added some pink Pearlescent I-Kan-dee chalk here and there - which isn't picked up by the camera but adds a gorgeous shimmer and is so pretty IRL.   The sentiment is from a retired Elzybells Spring Cubes clear set and I added a tiny pink rhinestone either side of it.  I added some Cotton Candy Stickles to the rose and the dog's cheeks, plus the tiny pink hearts which are the leftover punchies from using my Arrows Border punch.  This panel was diecut with the circle die from the Multiframes set, and the pink circle was diecut with my Spellbinder Circle Nesties.

The bow was made with my Bow Easy - which Fat Cat's now have in stock.  Lastly, I sewed on the button, then glued the ribbon to the card using Fabric glue.

Penny Black 'For goodness sake' card number two

Hello and welcome to my little world :-)  I haven't had much time for cardmaking this week because my DD was off school all week with a chest cold - which I have now as well :-(   Still, us Mums just keep going, don't we?!

I made another DT card for Fat Cat's Card Corner using the gorgeous Penny Black 'For Goodness Sake' slapstick stamp that they sent me in my DT Kit.  Check out the first card I made with this set here.   I have just checked their website and they are out-of-stock until June but you could email them and ask if they might be able to reserve one for you.

I stamped the image onto Watercolour paper and watercoloured with my acrylic paints.  I added some fine crystal glitter to the flower on the girl's hat and poncho, and on the 3 dots on her shoe, as well as the bunny's tulip and heart.

The large flower was diecut with the Marianne Design Creatables flower die that was part of my kit - there are 2 sizes of flowers in the set (plus 1 leaf die).  Once I diecut the flower, I ran it thru my Cuttlebug using the Textile embossing folder just to add some texture to the designer paper.  The flower is up on a 2mm mount (dimensional).

For the sentiment, I diecut lavender cardstock with my Cuttlebug and Spellbinder Scalloped Heart Nestabilities die then punched the white cardstock with my old Carl CP-2 Heart punch (which I have had forever).  The tiny heart in the centre of the panel is a leftover punchie from using my EK Success Arrows Border punch - I added some Crystal glitter to the heart too.

The bottom panel has been punched with a Martha Stewart Pinking Scallop edge punch - I seriously love this punch - it's so pretty.  I ran the panel thru my Cuttlebug using the 'oldie-but-a-goodie' Swiss Dots embossing folder then attached the ribbon.  The bow itself was made with my Bow Easy, then I sewed on a gold heart charm before I glued the bow onto the card.

I think you could use this card for lots of different occasions: birthday, friendship, thank you etc.

I'm popping this card in this week's Splitcoaststampers "Ways to use it" Challenge WT272 of "Paint".  Of course, I used paints for watercolouring.

Penny Black 'For goodness sake' - new slapstick stamp

Hi and welcome to my Blog :-)

This is my Design Team card I made for Fat Cats Card Corner using this adorable little Penny Black "Slapstick" stamp.  I've never used one of PB's Slapstick stamps before, but it is great quality and deeply etched rubber just like their wood-mounted stamps (except of course you just use a mounting block to stamp with).  This little bunny reminds me of a Bunnykins mug I had as a child - my late father would heat up some milk for me every night to have in my little mug before I went to bed.  The milk HAD to be in THAT mug!!

I thought this image would be perfect for watercolouring and tried to keep the colours pretty and soft.  I haven't watercoloured for months so it was nice to get back to my "first love".   The butterfly in the top RH corner was punched and then I ran it thru my Cuttlebug using the Textile embossing folder.

I added Kindyglitz to the yellow flowers on the girl's hat and under her chin, as well as the heart and tulip on the bunny.

The teal cardstock side panel was punched with my new favourite punch (which was also part of my DT kit) - Martha Stewart Pinking Scallop edge punch - and the designer paper was put thru my CB again using the Textile folder.  This panel was popped up on 1mm mounts (dimensionals).

The main panel is also up on 1mm mounts.

The ribbon was made in 2 separate elements.  I tried to tie a bow but this grosgrain ribbon wasn't very well-behaved - it wouldn't sit nicely, so I did a "Faux Bow" in that I just folded the ribbon and sewed the button to the centre.

The pink and teal hearts next to the sentiment are the leftover punchies from using my EK Success Arrows border punch - they look like tiny hearts and are just so cute :-)

Flower Pot card using Marianne Design Creatables dies

Hello, and thanks for popping in :o)

I have been wanting to make a Flower Pot card for ages, but just never got around to it until a few days ago when my Design Team pack from Fat Cats Card Corner arrived in the mail with (among other things), some Marianne Design Creatables flower dies - which gave me the little push to make this little Flower Pot card.  

There are a few tutorials around the web about how to make a Flower Pot card but the one I used for mine was from Andrea Walford's Blog.  Andrea has a printable template in PDF format which makes life easy because you can just download it & open it up in Adobe Reader and print it.  Of course, the template is copyrighted to Andrea, so if you do use it, please add a link back to Andrea's Blog.

The flower dies that I used were diecut with my Cuttlebug using the same sandwich as Spellbinder Dies, ie: A-plate, C-plate, die face up, cardstock, B-plate, and they cut easily and beautifully.  Here is a little pic of what the dies look like plus the pieces of cardstock that I diecut.  After diecutting the flowers, I glued the two flower pieces together and ran them thru my Cuttlebug with the Textile embossing folder.  I also embossed the leaves with the same folder.  I glued on the buttons and threaded some embroidery floss/stranded cotton thru the centres and tied a knot
.

All the flowers have been popped up on 2mm mounts (dimensionals) so that they overhang the pot lip easily.  The leaves have just been glued behind the flowers.

The green cardstock flower pot lip is a separate piece which was popped up on 1mm mounts (dimensionals).  The punched border was made with my Martha Stewart Pinking Scallop edge punch which was also part of my DT pack.  Really pretty isn't it?!

The sentiment panel just pulls up out of the pot.  Easy peasy!  The ribbon was attached in 2 separate elements and I made the bow with my Bow Easy.  Now that I've made one, I will make a few to have on hand because you can use them for any occasion.

Elzybells Challenge #41 - Single Layer Card

Hello and welcome to my little world!

Over at the Elzybells Blog, Elizabeth is running her fortnightly challenge and this time the Challenge (#41) is:  a single layer card - you can embellish as much as you like, but no layers.  I whipped up this simple card this morning and it was super-quick to make.  I think it could be used for any sort of occasion: birthday, friendship, thank-you, or even Mother's Day.  Did you know that Elzybells now has a forum which is where we post our Challenge cards? 

First I measured the width of my embossing folder and put a pencil mark on my cardstock so I could make the scoring lines with my Martha Stewart Scoring Board before I did the dry embossing.  That way I could line up the embossing folder so it would be straight.  I did actually try it the other way round first, but I ended up with crooked lines so I used the card as a frisbee instead!   Trust me - the 2nd way is so much easier, and you can always re-score the lines if they get slightly mushed in the Cuttlebug folder.

The embossing folder is from a Cuttlebug set called: "Just my Type".   I really like these narrow folders - they are really useful.   I lightly chalked the embossing with purple, lemon and green chalks to match the colours in the image.

The image was coloured with Gamsol and Prismacolor pencils, then I lightly coloured around the inside of the box with blue chalk.  I was in a glittery-mood, so I added some very fine glitter to the tulips as well as on the yellow dots on the vase.  I used my Zig Platinum Pigment Pen to draw a faint grey line around the image to try and give it a little depth.

Lastly, I added the pearls although they look more pink in the photo than in IRL - trust me: they really are purple!  It would be fun to make a little set of these cards using the Spring Cubes set as a gift for someone maybe for Mother's Day or a Birthday.  I'll add this little idea to my list of things to do!  Sorry it's not a fantastic photo - the weather was so cloudy and dull here today which made photography rather difficult.

I am also popping this card into the Splitcoaststampers Clean and Simple Challenge of CAS56 - "It's Hip to be Square".   The great thing about Splitcoaster Challenges is that you can play anytime - there is no time limit - so over the course of time, you get to see a gallery full of lots of different ideas.

Penny Black: I'm so cute - another thank you card.......

I made another quick and simple 'Thank you' card to give to a friend who is very much a dog-lover and is, in fact, a Dog Chiropractor by trade.  I love to make square cards and though it would suit this cute dog image so I'm popping this card into the Splitcoaststampers Clean and Simple Challenge CAS56 - 'It's hip to be square!".  See this link for the deets on the Challenge.

This dog stamp was one of the very first Penny Black stamps I bought many years ago and it doesn't seem to date and I still love it as much as I did when I first bought it.

The image was coloured with Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol, and then I lightly chalked around the image with my Kaisercolour chalks and added pink I-Kan-dee pearlescent chalk here and there so the card shimmers a little (not sure if you can see by my photo).   The 2 tiny pink hearts next to the sentiment are the leftover punchies from my EK Success Arrows Border punch (they look like tiny hearts)  and  I added some Kindyglitz to the hearts as well as the rose.

There is a Scor-Pal line underneath the ribbon and above the brown/pink cardstock border (hard to see the brown one on the photo).  To do the bottom border, I punched brown cardstock with my Martha Stewart Checkerboard edge punch then I simply glued some pink cardstock underneath so I ended up with the pink and brown checkerboard pattern which I thought would look pretty and match the pink and brown ribbon.

Edited to Add:

When I did the sentiment on the inside of the card, I dropped the stamp - which made a big mess!  DOH!!!  So I ended up cutting the front panel off the card and attaching it to a new card and turned it into an easel card to "save" it - so it's not technically really a CAS card anymore even if the front part still is.

Here's a little pic of the finished "Easel Card".  Aren't the paw pad brads cute?!  They were perfect for holding up the front of the card.

Penny Black: Love Tail - Flowers for my sweet friend

I've had a tough week with the sudden and unexpected passing of our dog, so I needed to make a bright and happy card to soothe my soul. The CAS Challenge #54 on Splitcoaststampers from a little while ago was "Wishing for Spring" - see this link for the deets - and as I love Spring flowers and this cute little PB stamp the Postie brought me a few weeks ago HADN'T seen any ink yet, I thought it seemed a good way of taking my mind off things.

It's a very simple one layer card which took very little time. The dry embossing border is a Sizzix Textured Impressions embossing folder which is my fav all-time folder - and it fits in the Cuttlebug with the same sandwich as the Cuttlebug folder.  I lightly chalked the embossing with my Kaisercolour chalks.  The image was stamped with Memento ink and coloured with Gamsol and Prismacolor pencils. I chalked around the image with those same chalks, then added some very fine .008 red glitter to the six hearts around the image. The camera didn't really capture the sparkle, but it looks so pretty IRL.

The sentiment was stamped with Stazon ink and I added a tiny heart next to it which is the leftover punchie from my EK Success Arrows border punch ('cos the punchies look like tiny hearts to me). I added red glitter to this tiny heart as well. The gingham ribbon bow was made with my Bow Easy then I sewed a button on top and attached it to the card with a glue dot.

Hi everyone!  Happy Monday!

This is a "Thank-you" card which I made for my best friend who has really helped me a lot this past year or so.  She is the sweetest girl you could ever meet!

This is also for the Splitcoaststampers CAS54 Challenge of 'Wishing for Spring' - I just LOVE spring flowers especially daffodils - so cheery!  See this link for the deets.

I've had this Sizzix Textured Impressions embossing folder (from the Hello Kitty Spring Set #2) for quite a while now and only used it once - and then the other day I "re-discovered" it and have made about 6 cards with it so far.  I LOVE clean & simple one-layer cards and this folder fits the bill perfectly because the middle is blank for me to stamp my image & it fits LOTS of images I have in my stamp stash.  Plus it easily fits in my Cuttlebug and uses the same sandwich as Cuttlebug folders. 

This cute little image arrived in my mailbox the other day from the UK - isn't it just adorable?  It was stamped with Memento ink and coloured with Gamsol and Prismacolor pencils and I added Kindyglitz to the flowers, some of the leaves and the dog's cheeks. It didn't take long to colour because the flowers/leaves aren't too detailed - just a flick of colour with the pencil and "smudged" with the paper stump/Gamsol - just to give an impression of shading/highlighting.   I lightly chalked the background for the sky etc with my Kaisercolour chalks and used these same colours to lightly colour the dry embossing frame.

Welcome!!  And thanks so much for stopping by :-)  Thought I would add another card to my stash which could be used as a Thank-you card, Happy Birthday, Friendship - anything really.  I am a huge fan of Penny Black 'Margaret Sherry' stamps - can't get enough of their furry friends - they are so cute! 

I also made this card for the Clean and Simple Challenge #54 on the Splitcoaststampers website of 'Wishing for Spring'. See this link for the deets:  I *LOVE* Spring flowers especially when the daffodils and jonquils start flowering in my garden. How amazing that you get these beautiful flowers from a bulb that looks nothing more than a brown onion!  And I am also entering it in the Penny Black Saturday Week 92 Challenge of:  Spring Flowers.  See this link for the deets.
